Instagram can help your business not just in leveraging sales, but also to grow your professional network. Both are very important, especially during the pandemic. As you may already know, Instagram has the option to switch to a business profile that provides relevant and useful information so that you can use the platform in a more strategic way. For example, you can look at the characteristics of your demographic, such as your audience’s location, and which are the best times for posts. Check out below these five basic tips to understand the platform’s tools and start using Instagram professionally.

1. Switch to business profile

To have access to Instagram tools for business, it is necessary that you have a business profile. So, if your profile is not yet a company profile, you need to switch to it. If you do not know how to do this, see the link below for a step-by-step guide.

By having this company profile it is possible to include information about your business, such as phone, email, address, and a virtual store on the platform, which was added in a recent Instagram update.

2. Analyze Metrics

In your business profile you have access to a tool called “Insights” that allows you to analyze various data of your audience’s access to the profile. In the Insights section, you can find some reports with useful information for managing the page. This tool provides data such as the number of people who viewed the posts, the profile of the audience that follows the page, gender, age group, location, and the details regarding the likes and comments for each post. This is very valuable information which helps to understand the behaviour of followers to create strategies and invest in the types of content that the audience engages the most.

3. Use Hashtags

Hashtags are very useful and can help your content to be found, as they work as filters to find posts on a certain topic. For example, if you want to advertise your products or services more widely, use hashtags in the description of the post including the keywords that your audience could search for. Also, always be aware of the most famous hashtags in the industry. Besides, if you operate in a specific city or region, also include hashtags about the location.

4. Use Quality Photos and Videos

Instagram is a social network focused on the visual, so photos and videos should be in the highest quality possible. Avoid posting poorly framed or low-resolution photos, videos with blurred images or background noise in the audio. The platform offers some simple editing features in addition to the insertion of filters and effects in the image, which makes it much easier at the time of posting. Besides, you can use other design platforms for editing photos and videos to create a layout. A very useful platform is Canva.com, which offers a free and a paid version. With Canva, you will have access to a range of photos and videos from an image bank. In the paid version you have even more options, which is worth it. In addition, as it is a design platform, you can create your post layout on the platform itself to post on your Instagram.

5. Interact with Your Audience

Whether you want that your audience engages with you, you need to create a bond with them. It is unpleasant to ask a question of a company and not be answered. So, talk and interact with followers. It is extremely important to be attentive, polite, and friendly in comments and direct messages, in order to demonstrate that your company cares and answers about its followers.

BTW, don’t forget that interacting doesn’t just mean responding to comments. Create polls, ask questions in photo captions, encourage people to be engaged and find out what they like, to feel special.
